Plan 1:100

Section 1:100

thinking of the pod to be a simple yet interactive piece of temporary architecture, I came out with this idea where the whole walls are created from these all square boxes which can slide in and out depending on the needs. By doing this, I am trying to allow people to use their imagination and creativity to inhabit this space.
The idea is that this block will be at least of 400 mm in length in order to provide flexibility of use. When it is pulled to the maximum, it will have a space of 300 mm, enough for a bookshelves, display or benches.

the pods will have frames for the square block to slide. the frames will need at least 100 mm in width.

the pod in proportion of human scale

it can be just a free space

or it can be a studio or internet hub too.

or it can be a mini gallery or performance stage.
thinking to use it as a gallery, it came up to me that the glass might be a disturbance to the art pieces. maybe by installing a drop down screen to block out the wall will help. but then maybe I should redesign the wall.

Function vs space vs human scale come as important. The pod has to be comfortable enough to fit about four to six people at a time (when it is open). And unless there are furniture in it.

I was trying to start with my wall facade. I was looking at ‘segmented’ patterns for the wall. Having some as transparent glass while the rest translucent. I was planning to use movement patterns as the pattern on the wall.

the colours for the facade will be taken from the colour of the night city view of Perth

interior of the pods. should I include built in purniture?
or should I leave it entirely empty?
here I include built in step on the ‘secondary’ box as a sitting or display areas. and on the other side with either a cabinet or screen feature. in the middle I am looking in putting a table which rotatable to any ways.

or maybe I can put in built in tables and chairs for artist studio. the table is to be folable to allow fo flexibility. at the same time maybe with a screen for slideshow films.

I stop and start thinking. should I keep the pod to be a simple box or maybe I can go crazier. just sketches of some ideas.

went back to the previous idea - trying to figure out the sliding system for the pod.

just quickly do a quick sketch of how the pods will look like.
I also intended to istall a light fitting in the pods to allow the pod to be a light feature at night.

working with section to work out which way should the ‘secondary’ box slide in and out.

suddenly came up with another idea, it is to hinged one side of the wall so it can be pulled down and allowed the ‘secondary’ box to slide out.

but by doing this, there is more problem on how the whole thing will stand up.

looking at how the plan will work out. having the ideas of letting the whole ‘secondary’ box to be fully open. But then it is seemed to be a problem as at least one side need to be enclosed so that when it is pushed back, it will become one whole piece of box.
